Advanced structural elements based on timber and composites for civil construction objects

Wood and Composites - Traditional and Modern Materials in the Modern Concept of Structural Building Systems

The sub-project "ATiCoS" focuses mainly on the application of wood as a traditional material in combination with FRP composites for load-bearing structural elements of civil buildings. The subject of this project is the research and development of timber-based load-bearing structural elements and FRP composites for horizontal structures (subtask 1), large-size timber-based wall elements with improved acoustic properties (subtask 2) and an FRP-based composite structural element with increased resistance in the condensation zone (subtask 3). Subtask 1 verifies the application of FRP composite reinforcement elements bonded into the outer lamella or surface of KVH and BSH beams for the load-bearing elements of horizontal structures of civil buildings. Subtask 2 focuses on the development and innovation of structural design of large-format wall elements in order to achieve better acoustic properties, fire response and fire resistance while maintaining the necessary load-bearing capacity. Subtask 3 deals with the development and validation of a FRP-based composite compressed strut element to ensure complete thermal bridge breaking and to achieve the required reliability and durability under climatic and mechanical loads.

The project duration was extended in December 2020 to the end of 2022, with 3 deliverables as part of the extension.
